Nose Work 1

This class is for dogs who have completed at least 2 sessions of Foundational Nose Work and by instructor approval.  These dogs are hunting for target odor (birch) and are preparing for either an Odor Recognition Test (ORT) and/or are preparing for a NW1 trial.  Continued emphasis is placed on independent hunting, odor obedience and handler observational skills, along with reward delivery and timing, leash skills, and building teamwork. All four trial elements: Interior, Exterior, Vehicle and Container searches will be covered.

Nose Work 2

This class is for dogs who have attained a NW1 title and are now preparing for a NW2 trial.  A new odor will be introduced (anise) – but NW2 is more than just adding a second target odor!  New concepts will be introduced:  Converging odor, inaccessible hides, multiple hides, working containers other than white boxes, and working through distractions such as food, toys and novel odors.  Continued emphasis will be on reading your dogs communication style, leash handling skills and problem solving.

Nose Work 3

This class is for dogs who have attained a NW2 title and are now preparing for a NW3 trial.  A new odor will be introduced (clove).  New challenges, such as working an unknown number of hides, working a clear room, understanding when your dog has covered the search area and calling Finish will be covered.

Pam Belcher, ANWI™ was a corporate sales manager and trainer for 13 years. She has been an instructor in canine agility (beginner, upper beginner, pre-intermediate and intermediate agility) for almost 10 years. She has taught Basic Manners, Intermediate Manners, CGC prep classes and Tricks classes and is a CGC evaluator.

Pam’s education includes many seminars and lectures from trainers such as Patricia McConnell PhD, Sarah Kalnajs, Karen London PhD and Dr Myrna Milani DVM. She has two CGC certified dogs, and has acheived various Novice agiliity titles on both dogs in NADAC and USDAA venues. She has also taken classes in various dog sports such as Rally, Tracking and Herding.

Pam was in the first Nosework class taught on the East Coast with Scott Williams, Certified Nosework Instructor, and has participated in Nosework classes since September ’09 with both dogs. Both dogs have passed their ORTs (Odor Recognition Tests) for Birch.

Pam owns two Australian Shepherds, Maxx (almost 10yrs) and Jinxx (8yrs)
